Social Soil

What does “Social Soil” mean? We're still learning!

When Green for the Greater Good and Free Food for All Delaware started brainstorming about working together on community events, one theme we kept coming back to was the importance of soil as a resource that sustains us—both metaphorically and literally.  Our soil is our community!

Soil is also the basis of our health—our food systems and our ecosystems. All Social Soil events are built around sharing a free community meal. We use the time together to celebrate gardening traditions and food memories.

Together, we build networks to strengthen our community’s connectedness, health and wellbeing.

For the first Social Soil, Green for the Greater Good was very happy to partner with the Latin American Community Center to host the event outside their building at 301 N. Harrison,

This free, bilingual event brought together community members and partners to share a beautiful seasonal meal created by Free Food For All Delaware. Everyone took part in conversations and activities and gave and received resources related to community gardening, soil science, stewardship, and community design. There was even a free farm stand by Bright Spot Farm. â€‹â€‹
