Greener Spaces, Greater Places

Green for the Greater Good

Updated: May 28, 2022

The West Side as a whole has just two acres of green space per 1,000 residents. This is extremely low when compared to the national average for cities with similar population density of six acres of park land for every 1,000 people.

There are many benefits to public greenspace. The Rodney Reservoir is located within a vibrant neighborhood that uses this green space for community gatherings and growing food.

The Rodney Reservoir is like other urban green spaces in that it brings community members together and strengthens community cohesion while having a positive impact on physical and mental health and negative impact on crime.

An urban greenspace like the Rodney Reservoir is beneficial to residents outside of this neighborhood in that it reduces city noise and air pollution, aids in cooling temperatures and aids in reducing flooding.
